To me, the Holidays wouldn’t be the holiday without some fun holiday traditions. Growing up there was a time where Christmas was just another day. We would go to church and come home. Now that I am a wife and mother I am not only all about family time, but I am all about making memories and starting fun holiday traditions. Family traditions we can do not just during the holidays but any time of the year.
Below are some fun holiday traditions my family and I already do, and some are new to us. I am always looking to grow our list of fun family traditions. If you are just starting to grow your family or in need of some ideas for fun traditions… look no further.
A family photoshoot
Now this doesn’t have to be a formal photoshoot, it can be as relaxed or as formal as you would like. If you want to hire a photographer and go all out check out my blog post on Tips for Great Family Photos. You can also do something simple in your living room with a tripod and a self timer. The important thing is to take fun pictures you can look back on over the years.
Matching Family Pajamas
This one is fun. If you follow me on instagram, you know I love to coordinate with my family. So matching with them for the holiday season is no different. Matching family pj is a fun way to bring the family together for the holiday and also makes for great pictures. If you haven’t picked up your matching family pjs, I have got you covered. Check out my blog post on Matching Jammies for the Family.
Decorating the tree as a family
I know this sounds pretty self explanatory, but I know some families take aesthetics very seriously and prefer to decorate the tree by themselves. Also some people outsource and hire someone to do it. I am not saying either is wrong or right. What I do know is when it is done as a family, that is when memories begin to happen.
Baking Holiday Treats
I know most people do this already, but it is something that is both fun and easy. You can have your little ones do the simple things like drop in the butter or add sprinkles. If you do this for a few years, not only will the memories be there but you may also be opening your little one up to a new found hobby. You can get some amazing baking supplies HERE.
Online shopping party
This is something my sisters and I typically do the night of thanksgiving. Once we are all comfy in our Pjs and the kids are asleep. We gather in one place, bring out our computers, snacks, and wine, then we start or complete our holiday shopping. We share what sites have deals, what we plan on getting, and even coupon codes. We also usually have a holiday movie playing in the background. This has been a great tradition because it eliminates us having to go out in the black friday madness and we still get to enjoy each other’s company.
DIY holiday gifts
This tradition is one of my favorites. This is your child’s chance to get creative and make a gift for people of their choosing. I love this family tradition because it is fun, thoughtful and allows your little one to be creative. The DIY doesn’t have to be super elaborate, it can be as simple as a picture frame or an ornament. We usually do this for my daughter’s Godparents and I like to pair it with a gift card too.
elf on the shelf
I laugh at this one because I see so many parents stress about this. Now I don’t think any holiday tradition is worth stressing over, it takes away from the fun of it. 2020 will be the first time I am giving this a try, as I feel as though my daughter is finally old enough to enjoy it. I most definitely will not be stressing and I will be keeping it VERY simple. You can get your own Elf on the Shelf (HERE).
I hope this helps someone get in the holiday spirit and start creating some fun holiday traditions this year. Be sure to leave me a comment sharing some of your favorite holiday traditions.
